Echipamente pneumatice

Pneumatic is the technology that uses a gas (usually compressed air) as a way of transmitting the energy needed to put into operation different types of mechanisms. The processes taking place in the pneumatic equipment consist in increasing the pressure of the air and the energy accumulated on the elements of the pneumatic circuit (eg cylinders), which perform different types of operations.

Generally, gas used for pneumatic equipment is compressed air, but inert gases such as nitrogen may also be used for special applications.

Basic pneumatic equipment consists of a series of elements designed to create compressed air, to distribute it and control it to perform various operations by using certain devices called cylinders.

Being an elastic material, when a force is applied to air, it becomes compressed, it can maintain its compression and returns the accumulated energy when it’s allowed to expand, according to the principles of the ideal gas law.

Pneumatic equipment is increasingly confronted with the competition of mechanical, hydraulic or electrical equipment. Nevertheless, there are undeniable advantages that these equipment presents, as well as the use of compressed air.

Easy transportation

Air is available everywhere and does not require extra cost. The exiting air is released into the atmosphere, so there is no need to build return lines like in the case of electrical and hydraulic systems. Pipelines can be used to transport Compressed air over long distances. It’s possible to install compressed air generation stations that constantly supply air to points with constant working pressure. The energy contained in the compressed air can be extended in this way for many applications.

Easy storage

Compressed air can be stored in suitable containers. If the tank is integrated into the pneumatic network, the compressor will only operate when the tank pressure drops below the critical level. And because there is always a certain pressure reserve, the work cycle can be completed even when the power supply fails to do so. Portable tanks (compressors) work well where there is no need for a pipe system.

Clean and dry

Compressed air doesn’t pollute the environment, especially in the case of compressors that don’t run on oil.

Safety in use

Compressed air works perfectly even at high temperature fluctuations or extreme temperatures. It can be used at very high temperatures, for example to open the doors of metallurgical furnaces. Pneumatic equipment and lines where there is no leakage don’t pose any danger to the safety of the system. The equipment and their components have a long life in terms of service cycle and a low failure rate. In addition, pneumatic components are very safe in terms of fire, explosion and hazards associated with electricity. Even in places where there is a high risk of such dangers or extreme weather conditions, they can be used without having to rely on costly safety equipment.

Economical

Pneumatic equipments are relatively more affordable than hydraulic ones. There is no need to replace components regularly, so costs are reduced and the equipment life is prolonged.

Easy to use

The operating principle of pneumatic equipment is very simple, so they are reliable and are not susceptible to malfunctions. Components can be easily replaced and the equipment can be easily connected and turned on. Compressed air can reach a flow rate of over 20 m / sec. Pneumatic cylinders reach a linear piston speed of 15 m / sec.

They are fully adjustable

The workflow speed and the force used can be adjusted as needed. Due to this important advantage, pneumatic equipment is used in almost all sectors of industry.

Other advantages of pneumatic equipment

  • Compressed air is not explosive, so there is no risk of creating sparks.
  • Components of pneumatic equipment can operate at very high speeds and can be easily adjusted.
  • Temperature changes do not significantly affect their operation.
  • Compressed air ensures a high working speed.
  • High durability and simplicity of handling elements that use compressed air in a wide range of operating temperatures with relatively low operating costs.
  • Resistance to external electromagnetic fields.
